Chippenham is an interesting market town, located between Bath and Swindon, has a population of about 40,000. It is a mixture of attractive architectural masterpieces and modern shopping areas.
Near the Town are several beautiful stone-built Cotswold villages villages. Lacock, mostly owned by the National Trust, is used as a venue for filming costume dramas such as Cranford. Other nearby villages include Biddestone and Castle Combe. There are also some fabulous great houses nearby including Bowood, Lacock Abbey (Harry Potter was filmed here) and Corsham Court.
There is a large viaduct built by Isambard Kingdom Brunel to carry the Great Western Railway across the town. Chippenham was the last station on the line until Box Tunnel was built and the train went to Bath.
